In conclusion

The first smartphone was called Simon, designed by IBM in 1992.  Not only could you use it as a mobile, it had a calendar, address book, world clock, calculator, note pad, e-mail, send and receive fax, and games.  As time has gone on, the features have increased as well as the market.  You can now find smartphones with Ericsson, Motorolla, Samsung, Blackberry and Apple.  The first smartphone would not hold up the the standards we ask for today in a phone, especially since it did not have a camera.

“Out of 1 billion camera phones to be shipped in 2008, smartphones, the higher end of the market with full email support, will represent about 10% of the market or about 100 million units.”  Smartphones

I have had camera phones myself, but the Blackberry Pearl is my first smartphone.  I bought this phone as I work full time as well as go to school.  I am an extremely busy person, and felt I needed to be able to check my emails while I was on the go.  It is much easier to take my phone with me than a laptop to grab a cup of coffee.

Setting up an email account was not easy on my Blackberry Pearl at first.  I thought I could just push some buttons and figure it out quickly.  I learned right away why these are called smartphones as they are clearly more intelligent than I originally thought.  I realized that I would have to research how to set up my email, and as a busy person, thought others would need the assistance as well.
