Susan Kare, Developer of Icons

Susan KareEveryday, we turn on our computers, mostly by using control/ alt/ delete, open our email accounts, and play the occassional solitaire game on a break.  Throughout a typical day, you see hundreds of computer Icons, such as the trash can to delete files, that are placed particularly well with easy to remember images.  If you have a Facebook account, someone on your friends list might have left you a gift wishing you a happy Valentine’s Day or a flower you can watch bloom.  How many times have you thought to yourself, I wonder who created these images, or how they are done?  The mastermind behind several of these computer Icons started her career many years ago at a company that has been going strong ever since.  Susan Kare has been an influential woman, one of the few in the computer science field, creating hundreds of different Icons as well as revolutionary contributions to the first Mac interfaces at Apple.  She has used graphic design to create many of the images we see on our computers daily.  Her work has not gone unnoticed, receiving awards for her contributions.
